Account Information: Email address (private, never displayed publicly), public nickname (displayed on your non-anonymous posts), password (stored as a secure hash), account creation date.

Content: Grypes you publish (public), replies you post (public), whether you posted anonymously (stored privately).

Technical: IP addresses (for security and rate limiting), browser type and device information, pages visited and actions taken.

  • To operate the Platform and provide services
  • To authenticate your account via password or email magic links
  • To prevent spam, abuse, and security threats
  • To enforce Community Rules
  • To send account-related notifications

3. What Is Public vs Private

PUBLIC (visible to anyone): Your nickname (on non-anonymous posts), “Anonymous” label (on anonymous posts), grype headlines, body text, topics, timestamps, replies, reaction counts, member profile pages (excluding anonymous posts).

PRIVATE (never displayed publicly): Your email address, your password, your WordPress login username, which anonymous posts belong to your account, your saved grypes and private history.

4. Pseudonymity and Its Limitations

Grypes is designed for pseudonymous expression. However: Pseudonymity is not absolute anonymity. We may disclose information if required by law (e.g., court order, subpoena). Technical data (IP addresses, etc.) could potentially be used to identify you. Do not post information that could identify you if you require strict anonymity. Search engines may index public content.

5. Data Retention

  • Public grypes remain visible unless deleted by you or removed for violations.
  • Deleted grypes are removed from public view but may persist in backups for up to 90 days.
  • Account deletion: contact info@grypes.com to request deletion. We will remove your account, email, and private data. Your public grypes will be anonymized or removed upon request.

6. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and security. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

7. Third-Party Providers

Hosting: Our website is hosted on shared hosting infrastructure. Email: Transactional emails (magic links, notifications) are sent via our mail server. We do not sell your data to third parties.

8. Children’s Privacy

Grypes is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.

9. Security

We implement reasonable security measures including HTTPS encryption, secure password hashing, rate limiting, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure.
